Well, look no further.... Café 458 is launching a "Cooking 101" hands-on training program that will teach you all the basics, plus give you the opportunity to apply your skills in a restaurant setting. And, it's FREE!
Led by Culinary Institute of America alum Chef Johnathan Metellus, Café 458's "Cooking 101" will teach you the following:
- Knife skills (proper handling of knife, cuts, care, etc)
- Mis-en-place (learning proper set-up, flavored oils, seasoning and spices)
- Product Identification (in-house and site visits to Dekalb Produce and International market)
- Introduction to cooking techniques (grilling, poaching, sautéing, baking, deep fat frying etc)
- Techniques of healthy cooking (American, Asian, global cuisines)
- Introduction to hot food
- Introduction to cold food (salads, vinaigrettes, composition salads)
- Advanced cooking techniques
- Plate presentation
- Setting up a banquet function (small and large parties dinner parties)
- Menu development and costing
- Introduction to baking and dessert display
And unlike traditional cooking classes, you will have the opportunity to apply your skills in a true restaurant setting at Café 458. Also, we have great Guest Chefs lined up from Atlanta's hottest restaurants.
How to Sign-Up
Café 458's "Cooking 101" is completely free of charge. The only requirement is that you make a one month commitment to attend instructional and application classes for two days each week. You may choose the session that works best for your schedule, although class size is limited to the first four people that sign-up per session.
Available "Cooking 101" Sessions:
- Session 1 - Wednesday (5pm-8pm) and Thursday (5:30pm-9:30pm)
- Session 2 - Wednesday (5pm-8pm) and Friday (5:30pm-9:30pm)
- Session 3 - Wednesday (5pm-8pm) and Sunday (8:30am-1:30pm)
Sessions will begin on the first Wednesday of every month.
